The Phansi Museum private collection of Southern African tribal artifacts is beautifully displayed in the basement rooms of Robert's house-a Victorian historical monument. To get there from the CBD - follow Sydney Road out of town for 1, 9km. Turn right into Franks Road (directly after Timber City) go over Umbilo Road to Frere Road (0. 6km) turn left and go up the hill (0. 4km) . At the top of the corner of Cedar Road is the rambling double storey-Roberts house.

The William Campbell picture collection contains one of South Africa's finest collections of work by black South African artists such as Jabulani Ntuli, Gerard Benghu and Dsmt Mnguni. The collection also includes 250 paintings by Barbara Tyrell, depicting Zulu social life and customs. The museum is still furnished much as it was when the Campbell family was still there. Merriwinkle estate in Kloof is the home of Peter Amm, architect, landscaper and collector. It has one of the most beautiful private gardens in Durban. Amm has converted a building on the property into a private bead museum with a superb collection of African beadwork and traditional artifacts. He is in the process of developing a private sculptured garden featuring the work of South African artists. Across the road is the gorge garden grove nursery. Replica of the original George Robinson home built in 1850. It belonged to George Robinson (early editor of the Mercury) and then to his son Sir John Robinson, First Prime Minister of Natal during the 1890's.
