The Nonwovens and Composites research group, located in Port Elizabeth, focuses on research and development in nonwovens, fibre reinforced composites, biocomposites, biopolymers, nanocomposites and nanofibres for a wide range of applications. Through mutually beneficial agreements with a broad spectrum of stakeholders, a sustainable nonwovens and composites industry in Southern Africa is promoted. The research group is involved in various projects with local and international industries for the application of nonwoven and composite materials in aerospace, automotive, rail, marine, building, construction and packaging industries.

The mandate which has been entrusted to the WRC includes: *Promoting co-ordination, co-operation and communication in the area of water research and development *Establishing water research needs and priorities *Stimulating and funding water research according to priority *Promoting effective transfer of information and technology *Enhancing knowledge and capacity-building within the water sector.
