St John's is a school rich in history, extending back to 1916 when Father Luke O'Reilly bought an old tin shanty and erected it for use as a church of which a portion was utilised as the first 'non-European' school for Catholic children. Today this philosophy of equal access to education for all races is continued. St John's acknowledge that children come from diverse family backgrounds, and thus incorporates and expands on this knowledge, offering all children the chance to gain a better understanding of those around them while still acknowledging the similarities and differences. This is achieved by having an open and accessible enrolment policy, where families with diverse backgrounds and needs are all welcome. We, therefore, offer a learner-orientated environment that encourages learners' initiative, independence and self-esteem.
