Horizon House is a residential and sheltered-employment centre in Stellenbosch specialising in the holistic care of people with a primary intellectual disability. Established in 1974, the centre caters for residents and day workers. A holistic approach is followed to establish a safe, normalised environment in which they can live, work, socialise and take part in sport. Based on their intellectual abilities and interests, they join one of 11 work areas, offering therapeutic value and allow them to make a meaningful contribution. Everyone is accepted for their intrinsic worth and residents and day workers alike get the opportunity to develop their talents and receive training in life skills and in the work place. Holistic and client-centered service is provided by staff members, instructors, medical staff, social worker and occupational therapist, as well as care of their recreational and spiritual needs, personal development and support to parents and families.
