Sizanani is a sewing and clothing design centre situated in central Pinetown. Sewing courses are offered as full-time courses on weekdays or part-time courses on Saturday mornings (or part-time during the week) . Students do not need to have any formal education to be able to learn a sewing skill, though being able to read, write and have basic mathematical skills is an advantage. The first year course covers basic sewing, learning how to draft simple patterns, sewing a skirt, shirt, dress and zip-up jacket. Students have the option to continue for a second year course and this course covers more advance sewing and pattern making skills including corsets, jeans / trousers, men's formal shirts, jackets and waistcoats. The Services Sector Education and Training Authority (Services SETA) was established and registered in March 2000 in terms of the skills development Act of 1998 and is responsible for the disbursement of the training levies payable by all employers. These levies are collected by the South African Revenue Service (SARS) via the Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET), and are to be disbursed through a management system motivated by skills requirement assessment and monitoring.
