Carus Gardens, 34 2nd Avenue, Linden, Randburg, South Africa
The original Farmhouse and Residence was built in 1896 and is now home to the Carus Gardens Boutique Hotel and Restaurant. The leisure hotel, located in a part of heaven on earth, on 2nd Avenue in Linden, was built by Johannes Jacobus Rabie van der Linde with profits from his farming. The Linden neighbourhood is named after this farmer from Philippolis in the Free State, honouring the founder. Carus Gardens Boutique Hotel is the first Retreat Boutique Hotel with full-time nursing staff for post-surgery recovery in South Africa. Originally it was the first home in the district with electric lights throughout the building, bathrooms en-suite in most lavishly furnished rooms, constant hot and cold running water, and many other innovations. Under the guidance of owners Kruger and Nel, the estate offer the highest quality in service, entertainment and dining.
