Location: The 60 000 ha reserve is situated in the far north of North West Province, adjacent to the Botswana border. History: Madikwe was announced to the public in August 1991 and officially became part of the Board's estate on 31 October the same year. A detailed feasibility study showed that wildlife-based tourism was the most beneficial option for this remote and economically depressed area. Madikwe Game Reserve is home to 66 large mammal species including the Big Five and approximately 300 resident and migrant bird species. It is one of South Africa's largest game reserves. The principal circuit takes only 2 hours and is a most rewarding game viewing experience. Location: The Mafikeng Game Reserve is located against the municipal boundary of Mahikeng, the Capital City, extending eastwards to cover an area of 4 600 ha of open Kalahari grassland and acacia thorn scrub. To reach the Reserve entrance drive into Mahikeng on the R503 (Lichtenburg Road), cross over the bridge and turn right into Shippard Street. Travel east for 2 km and turn right into Jacaranda Street (immediately after the sportsground) and continue out of the suburbs to the gate.

It is successfully claimed by the Barolong Bo Modiboa. it is situated west of the town of Potchefstroom on the N12 treasure route near Ikageng township and Matlwang village. It is an area of high conservation value as it conserves a portion of the western grassland biome as found in the Bakenveld. Popular attractions include the popular annual hiking event, game viewing and Community outreach programmes which the reserve hosts.

A group camp comprising three fully equipped self- catering chalets of 3 bedrooms each. Also three fully equipped sleeping halls with six beds each, for groups sleeping a total of 18. A thatched hunting camp on the reserve can be hired as a unit offering a peaceful environment in the centre of the reserve. There is no electricity at this camp which is powered by solar panels.

Sa Lombard nature reserve was one of the earliest wildlife conservation research centres in South Africa and is credited with having saved the black wildebeest from extinction in the wild. The reserve is an important breeding centre for Plains animals, including Springbok, black wildebeest, red Hartebeest and zebra. The reserve conserves a small area of open Kalahari grassland on an unusual flood plain. Game viewing is made simple by the almost total lack of trees. Location: the reserve is located 17 km west of Bloemhof on the R34 to Schweizer- Reneke. To reach the reserve take the R34 west from Bloemhof for 5 km and turn left for 6. 4 Km to the entrance gate. The reserve complex is located at the centre of the reserve. Accommodation: a three bedroomed self-catering Guesthouse sleeping 8 people is available.

Is situated 54km north of Brits, near Beestekrel and north-east of Rustenburg, in typical broken bushveld country. It is renowned as both an anglers and birdwatching destination. Location: To reach Velkop take the R511 road north from Brits for 35 km to a sign indicating Beestekrel. Turn left and continue 4km to a sign indicating Velkop Dam to the right. Travel a further 11km to the entrance to the Velkop Dam and Magalies Water Project complex on the left and continue to the reserve entrance gates and dam wall.
