Lomati Sawmill, established in 1971, is a manufacturing plant that produces kiln dried Southern African pine lumber from sawlogs supplied by Sappi Forests. The mill produces 102, 000m3 per annum of structural and industrial lumber. Over 102 structural lumber products are produced for amongst others, the building, furniture and packaging industries. Since opening in 1971 the mill has undergone several expansions which include modernisation of the wet mill equipment with a 120% increase in capacity and modernisation of their kilns and finger joint plant to match the improved capacity. Lomati Sawmill's structural lumber for the building industry complies with South African national standards and carries the South African Bureau of Standard (SABS) mark of approval.

The mill produces a timber products mainly specialized in the construction, packaging and furniture industries. Timber produced at Busby is kiln dried. Timber grading varies from mainly SABS S5 timber to industrial grade, black cross and crating. Busby has a SABS certified CCA treatment plant and offers clients treated timber on request. Ernst Group does not use the services of transport contractors to move raw timber and finished products to our various markets. Transport is done via road freight either by tractor, light duty trucks or Super links. J & J Timber Transport, a subsidiary of the group, handles and manages all the Group's transport needs.
